Experience the historical and pilgrimage significance of Tilicho Lake, the world’s highest lake, on the Tilicho Lake Trek. This trek holds a special place as it is mentioned as a holy site in the Ramayana, a revered Hindu mythological book. Embark on a challenging journey that includes a thrilling jeep drive from Besisahar to Manang or Braka village, reaching an altitude of 4919m. Along the way, you will encounter the Khangsar village, a 700-year-old monastery in Braka, and other breathtaking sights.
The trek encompasses the scenic beauty of Tilicho Lake, which collects glacial melt from the majestic peaks of Gangapurna, Annapurna 2, 4, and 3, Khansar Peak, Tilicho Peak, Annapurna Himalayan range, and Manaslu and Himal Chuli from the Manaslu Range.
Although Tilicho Lake Trek shares similarities with the Annapurna Circuit Trail, it diverges from Manang, taking a different route north towards Tanki Manang and Yak Kharka, passing through Khanshar village. From there, the trek continues to Tilicho Lake at 4919m, traversing sandy trails from Shree Kharak to Tilicho Base Camp. This demanding trek requires strong physical endurance, a passion for exploration, and attentiveness to navigate the challenging terrains.
Manang village serves as the central tourist hub for trekkers in the Annapurna region, offering a range of facilities such as internet access, telephone services, currency exchange, a high-altitude hospital, and a German bakery. The cultural diversity found in this village provides a captivating experience, adding to the richness of the Tilicho Lake Trek.
During the trek, you will be treated to breathtaking views of small Gurung and Thakali hamlets nestled amidst the grandeur of Mt. Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east, alongside the Marsyangdi River. After reaching Tilicho Lake, an alternative route awaits adventurous trekkers—the challenging Moesokanta La Pass leading to Jomsom, instead of the traditional Thorong La Pass. Any changes to the itinerary should be communicated in advance to ensure proper arrangements for equipment, tented camps, flights, and accommodations.
At Chamlang Expeditions, we are flexible and open to accommodating changes to the package according to the preferences of our guests. Tilicho Lake Trek can be undertaken throughout the year, thanks to the favorable weather conditions. However, the spring and autumn seasons are widely regarded as the best time for the Tilicho Lake Trekking, offering optimal trekking conditions and breathtaking natural beauty.
