This trek encapsulates some of Nepal’s most cherished tourist destinations, including the magnificent Rara Lake, also known as Mahendra Lake, and the mesmerizing Phoksundo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal.
Rara Lake, nestled in the Rara National Park, covers an impressive 9.8 km2 at an altitude of 2290 meters above sea level. This remote lake in the wilderness is surrounded by a conservation area abundant with cedar, blue pine, Artemisia, hemlock, cordyceps, pine, fir trees, Paris Polyphilla, and mountain rhododendron. Wildlife enthusiasts will have the opportunity to spot a variety of animals, including deer, musk deer, Himalayan Tahr, red pandas, snow leopards, Indian leopards, yellow-throated martens, black bears, gray langurs, dholes, rhesus macaques, Himalayan monals, kalij pheasants, and Himalayan snow cocks. Another highlight of this trek is the Phoksundo Lake, located in the Shey-Phoksundo National Park.
Phoksundo Lake, with its stunning natural beauty, is the deepest lake in Nepal, reaching an elevation of 5600 meters and covering 5 km2 of land. This picturesque lake is surrounded by a diverse range of flora and fauna, providing a paradise for both the eyes and cameras. The trek also includes the Kangmara Pass (5370 meters), the highest point of the journey, which leads us to the arid landscapes of Dolpo and the breathtaking Shey-Phoksundo Lake. The Phoksundo National Park, spanning 3555 km2, is home to various wildlife species, including grey wolves, musk deer, snow leopards, Tibetan sheep, shrub, Ghoral, jackals, and blue sheep. The park also boasts an array of flora, such as juniper, silver fir, rhododendron, hemlock, spruce, cedar, cordyceps, Artemisia, and more. Additionally, the 800-year-old Shey Gompa, located near Phoksundo Lake, is a major tourist attraction in Nepal. It holds historical and cultural significance.
Sinja in Jumla, geographically similar to the Tibetan highlands, is renowned as the origin of the Nepali official language, adding an intriguing aspect to the trekking experience.
